When celebrating success, one should feel joy rather than relief. Shared joy is preferable to individual joy. It is acceptable to lose as long as you are worthy of winning.
Podcast: Coach K: Get On The Right Bus
Coach K is one the best basketball coaches of all time, and these three comments on basketball success remind me of the days I competed in the basketball varsity team (though we are nowhere near Coach K's level).
Looking back, I wasn't sure if I usually felt joy or relief at the last game of the season. Or, in general, after any hard work for an extended period of time, like preparing for an exam, do I feel relief or joy?
My very unfinished thought is we should develop the mindset so that we feel joy instead of relief. Joy is more powerful in the long run. And you can define your own success so that even if you lose, you can feel the joy.
