"The most personal is the most creative."
Quote
Specific, personal details are harder to copy. They give your work a texture that general BS advice cannot.
What feels embarrassingly specific to you often resonates most with others. The films and books that move us oftentimes contain vivid, particular details. Specificity creates originality. (Remember Originality is Being Obvious.)
When you share what's genuinely yours, you give others permission to recognize their own particularity.
I learned this from Bong Joon-ho's Oscar speech, where he credited Martin Scorsese though I cannot find the exact origin.
